Oslo's SpaceGroup Strengthens Their RFP Proposal

Spacegroup is an award winning architecture and urban planning office based in Oslo, Norway.  Spacegroup combines an intense research process with its design process. With 25 years of experience working on projects all over the world, the two founding partners Gary Bates and Gro Bonesmo brought an international practice to Oslo when establishing Spacegroup in 1999. With the last 15 years based in Scandinavia, the company is deeply rooted in the Scandinavian approach to architecture and its relationship to the public space and site specific urban strategies, while still keeping an international perspective. 

Challenge:

Chosen as one of three finalists to prepare a full architectural plan for a design competition, Spacegroup was challenged to find a software that could analyze all 15 blocks within the competition area of Nytorget plaza in the center of the City of Stavanger. Spacegroup needed an efficient data-driven tool that could help inform their proposal for the RFP submission.

Solution:

Using State of Place, Spacegroup was able to analyze 15 blocks within the competition area and ran a scenario analysis to quantify the improvements that the team's architectural plan created for Nytorget, including a new, large public plaza.

Results:

The State of Place scenario demonstrated a 25 point increase in score between the baseline conditions and the plan, allowing the team to showcase the effectiveness of their design to the city. Overall, for their RFP proposal, Spacegroup was able to boost:
